Hi! I got as far as editing the registry, but the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM\Domains does not exist. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SAM\SAM is there but it is empty, no Domains. :-(

Any idea? Do I dare to reboot?

Ensure that you look at C:\ drive (where also there is the "Users" folder) or try to enable the Administrator account offline by following this guide: How to Enable Administrator Offline

Did the routine several times, but at the end hitting the accessibility prompt just gets me the accessibility menu. No command prompt. I have fought this problem through the years, but in the past I was somehow able to get in.

Because of this problem I always go and set it up to NEVER ask for a password, but it doesn't seem to matter.

    Hello,

I followed the instructions you provided, but when I got to the screen to access the Command Prompt, I was required to select an account. The only account listed is the one I'm trying to reset the password. When I click on that account, the screen asks me for my password. Every option that comes up under Advanced Options asks for my password. So, I can't Restore, or Remove Updates, etc … Any ideas on what I can do next?

    Thanks

Yes, boot from a Windows USB installation media and at the 1st screen of "Windows Setup" press SHIFT + F10 to open the command prompt. Then follow the instructions in Step-2 of Method-5 to enable the hidden administrator account.

    Hello Konstantinos,
I get as far as cmd prompt, but when I try to move the file c:\windows\system32\utilman.exe, I get message "Access is denied"
I am in windows 11 "Safe mode" with command prompt. Using the steps above, I was not able to get access to the file address unless I went into "Safe mode". Using the above steps, I was not able to get permission to move the file and the file did not even appear in the Directory. So, I tried Safe mode, which allowed me to see the file but was not able to move or copy it to the c:\ directory.

You won't be able to move the file in safe mode. You have to do it from the recovery environment as instructed.

ok i forgot windows password to oen up laptop in the first place. I click any buttin on the keyboarf and all it sayd is "Main User" then an empty box under it that says "password" and, an arrow pointing to the right o the screen. In the bottom right hand corner we have 3 symbols, one holds the restart, shut down and the sleep button, the other button is the ease of access button which holds numerous options such as filter keys, sticky keys, high contrast, magnifier and narrator and finally the last option left there is nothing nut the wifi button and all the available connections i can coneeect upto for the wifi. There is no problem here and it is hooked upto the home network wifi fine but that is it. The hint i gave myself is useless..lol..i have no idea hwast was going through my head at the time i didn this .

Follow the instructions. This is the only way to view the contents of the disc.
